Privacy Policy
Effective July 2026
WordWise is a Chrome extension for vocabulary learning. This policy describes what data WordWise handles and what it never touches. The short version: your reading stays on your device, and we only store what you deliberately save.
What stays on your device
- Every dictionary lookup. The full dictionary is downloaded to your browser when you install WordWise. When you look up a word, the answer comes from your own device. We never receive, log, or see the words you look up or the pages you read.
- Your settings (theme, triggers, font size), synced by Chrome itself.
What we store when you sign in
Signing in with Google is optional and only needed to save words. If you sign in, we store:
- Your account: the email address and display name your Google account shares. We never see your Google password.
- Your saved words: each word you deliberately save, along with the sentence it appeared in, the address of the page where you found it, and the date. This exists so the product can show you where you met each word; it is created only when you click save.
This data is stored in a database in the United States (hosted on Railway).
Payments
Premium subscriptions are processed by Stripe. Your card number goes directly to Stripe and never touches our servers. We store only your subscription status.
What we never do
- No collection of browsing history. Lookups never leave your device.
- No ads and no selling or sharing of data with third parties.
- No third-party analytics or tracking scripts.
Your data, your call
- Export your saved words anytime from WordWise Cove (CSV or Anki format).
- Delete your account and all stored data by emailing hellowordwise@gmail.com. Deletion is completed within 30 days.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, the effective date above changes with it and significant changes will be noted in the extension's release notes.
